Numero Uno: I started a new career! As many of you know, we moved to Dallas because I accepted a position at a PR agency here. My first few months at the agency were incredible. As time went on, I continued to love the work I was doing and love the clients I was given. However, I started hating the work environment and atmosphere I was in. As hard as I tried to push through for a while longer, it was obvious that I wasn't where I was supposed to be.
That leads us to the big change. After being unemployed for 3 weeks (a.k.a. being stuck at home in a city where you hardly know anyone + you don't want to go out and about to shop because you're unemployed = the most boring 3 weeks ever) I accepted a job as the new Communications Specialist for the American Red Cross North Texas Region.

I started at the end of March and so far, so good! The work I'm doing is so very different than what I was doing before, but I'm learning new things everyday and I'm working for an organization that truly helps those in their time of need. Another thing that is different: the environment.
The Lord provides. I believe that He knew exactly what I needed, and that he is steering me in a new direction. My new job requires me to trust the Lord a lot. Even though it is a completely new career choice, He wouldn't of put me here if this wasn't a chance I was supposed to take.

Numero Dos: we're moving! We're moving to Alaska....jokes. No, no, no we're moving downtown :)
Since I was little I've dreamed about moving back to a big city, living close to downtown and being close to all of the action. Well, it's happening! But not without some hard decisions to be made.
Picking a place to live downtown was so hard. 1. Finding a nice one bedroom apartment downtown is almost impossible unless you're willing to spend $1500 a month on an 800 square foot box. Apartments that would be $500 a month in Fayetteville, would be at least $1200 here. 2. You'll be in the nicest area one second, then you'll turn the corner and you may or may not need to get the heck out of there for your safety.
What made this decision so hard for us was constantly wondering how much we should pay for an apartment. You see, once you're out of college and you get a full time salaried job, you'll experience the biggest income increase you'll probably ever experience. I'm not saying that we're rolling in money (we're not), but we're both blessed with the jobs that we have. And it's hard balancing finances - it is tempting to go buy the things you've always wanted instead of putting that extra money into savings.

In saying that, we fell in love with an apartment that was at the top of our budget. It had it all - it was brand new, had dark hardwood floors, top floor location, granite countertops, big bedroom, etc, etc, etc. However, once we turned in our application for the apartment, we immediately felt uneasy. Although we could swing it, could we really spend that much on an apartment each month and somehow justify it?
The answer to that... was no. Even though we had already secured our spot at this fancy apartment, we kept looking for other options. Finally we found something else; the building is older, it doesn't have hardwood floors, no granite counter tops, etc, etc. But, moving into this apartment would save us roughly $400 each month!
We had to seriously ask ourselves what was more important: being incredibly comfortable in the lap of luxury, or living way below our means in order to save for our future.
Ultimately, we signed on with the "not brand new" apartment, and once we did - we felt such a huge sense of relief. We knew that we were making the smart chose. By making this decision, we'll be able to own a home sooner, travel more and be prepared financially if an emergency happens. In the end, we learned that being obsessed with the idea of luxury and comfort is a sin that will eat you up inside.

Numero Tres: I'm growing out my bangs. I figured this would be a good way of ending this super serious blog post. However, growing out my bangs is a very serious matter. If you know me, you know that I've had bangs since.... well I don't know, because I've always had bangs!
